《三国演义》是元末明初小说家罗贯中根据陈寿《三国志》和裴松之注解以及民间三国故事传说经过艺术加工创作而成的长篇章回体历史演义小说，描写了从东汉末年到西晋初年之间近百年的历史风云，反映了三国时期各类社会斗争与矛盾的转化，并概括了这一时代的历史巨变，塑造了一群叱咤风云的英雄人物。 《三国演义》是中国文学史上第一部章回小说，是历史演义小说的开山之作，也是第一部文人长篇小说。
《红楼梦》是曹雪芹 披阅十载，增删五次 ， 字字看来皆是血，十年辛苦不寻常 的作品。 学术界一般将《红楼梦》的版本分为两大系统。一为 脂本 系统，即乾隆十九年（1754）到乾隆五十六年（1791）间，以八十回抄本的形式在社会上流传的《石头记》。这些传抄本大都有 脂砚斋重评石头记 的标题，而且还有署名脂砚斋、畸笏叟等人的批语，因此学术界称这种抄本为脂评本系统的抄本，简称 脂评本 或 脂本 。如甲戌本、己卯本、庚辰本、甲辰本。此外还有列藏本、戚蓼生序本等。 另一为 程本 系统，全书一百二十回。乾隆五十六年，程伟元将数年苦心搜集的不知何人所作的后四十回，与社会上传抄的前八十回 合成完璧 ，并邀高鹗共同予以整理，然后初次用木活字排印发行（简称 程甲本 ）。
