《明语林》十四卷，清初吴肃公撰。吴氏，字雨若，号晴岩，一号逸鸿，别号街南，安徽宣城人。生于明天启六年，卒于清康熙三十八年，他是明诸生，入清不事进取，卖字行医兼授徒自给。因多病而体弱，晚年更喘咳而屡痿。但他勤奋著述，孜孜不休，一生著作甚富。仅《四库全书总目》便于经部收有《诗问》、《读礼问》；史部收有《姑山事录》；子部收有《户祀典议》、《明语林》。另有《街南文集》、《续集》、《律陶》、《阐义》等多种传世。??????《明语林》收录了许多名言俊语，涵义广泛，寓意深远，有的可视作处世箴言，有警戒借鉴作用。有关政事的如[笔九经尹句容]条所谓[民不可有此色，官不可无此味]。
