全书收词300个，范围涉及日常用品、水果、动物、颜色、形状、数字、年月日等。每一个词配有一幅图，插图风格活泼，色彩明快。每一个词还配有简单的英文解释。全书按英文字母顺序排序。 为适合中国国情，计划进行必要加工： 1. 给出国际音标 2. 给出中文对应词 3.给出汉语拼音。 牛津出版社还有一本是为5—7岁儿童编写的词典，名为Oxford First Dictionary ，我馆亦可考虑出版。出此考虑暂将本词典取名为《牛津英汉儿童开智词典》（第二本词典可叫《牛津英汉儿童启蒙（或益智）词典》）。

英语中的复形名词，往往和其它难点如冠词、介词、动词时态等一样，也给我国英语学习者造成很大的困难。其原因主要有二：一是汉语本身基本上没有复形名词，二是各种英语词典一般都比较忽视复形名词的用法，缺乏充足的有关如何使用复形名词的例证。本词典收集有大量的比较常见的并为中国学生在使用上感到较为困难的复形名词。本词典不包括用法简易的复形名词，也一般不包括古旧的复形名词。某些表衣物、工具、疾病、游戏等的复形名词（即无单形名词），本词典将复形名词分为三类：一、须用复形，无单形，二、常用复形（包括“往往”与“通常”），有单形，三、可用复形，有单形，本词典还收有两种具有复念的名词：一是通形名词（即单、复同形），如sheep,scum等；二是表群体的无单形名词，关于可数性，本词典一律根据句法观点处理。所
