李白生于公元701年，故乡是今天四川江油县的青莲乡。他的少年时代正当唐玄宗“开元之治”前期，那时玄宗励精图治，整个社会欣欣向荣。李白从少年时代起就胸怀大志，想把自己的文才武艺都奉献给大唐王朝，想做布衣卿相，以使国泰民安。公元725年，李白25岁，经由长江三峡出蜀，一路写了《峨眉山月歌》《渡荆门送别》等诗。到金陵后，又写了《长干行》《金陵酒肆留别》等。五年后，他次到唐代的京城长安，发现有志难酬，心中苦闷，于是写了《长相思》《行路难》《蜀道难》等。这一批诗歌在李白一生创作中形成了个高潮，反映了他次到长安的遭遇和思想感情。
