《风景名胜读本》是专门为海外和来华留学学习中文且具备一定的中文阅读能力、有兴趣了解中国社会、历史和文化的读者编写的。其中每本书含25～30篇短文，文章围绕每本书的主题，选取中国社会具有代表性、特色性、先进性、创新性的题目编写而成，其语言尽量通俗易懂，避免生僻词语。希望《风景名胜读本》是一个窗口，能够让海外学生、来华学子从中看到中国社会、历史和文化的概貌与特色。同时也希望它是一座桥梁，能够让海外学生、来华学子通过它而更加了解中国的国情民情，为今后的学习、生活和工作提供便利。
